If an injured person dies, their relatives receive a death grant.

The care allowance is paid in the month of death up to a maximum of level II (up to 521.00 euros). (from 01.07.17: 531 euros).

The competent authority may request further documents from you if necessary.
Relatives are entitled to claim if they lived in the same household as the deceased at the time of death. The following order of priority applies:
- Spouse
- life partner
- Children
- Parents
- Stepparents
- Foster parents
- Grandchildren
- Grandparents
- Siblings
- Siblings
If the deceased did not live in the same household as any of these persons, the death grant will be paid in the same order of priority to the person whose maintenance the deceased was responsible for.
If there are no beneficiaries, the death grant may be paid to the person who bore the costs of the last illness or funeral or who cared for the deceased until his/her death.
You can apply for the death grant at the competent pension authority.
If you are unable to visit the competent authority (e.g. for health reasons), send an informal application and enclose a copy of the required documents.
