If you are under 16 years of age, your parents or guardians can apply for an identity card for you.

At the request of parents, an identity card can be issued for children under 16 years of age.

• Another identity document and/or a civil status certificate (e.g. birth certificate) proving the identity of the applicant.
• Declaration of consent of the legal guardian,
• in the case of only one legal guardian, the additional proof of custody,
• a biometrically suitable photograph (according to the photo sample board).

• German within the meaning of Art. 116 sec. 1 of the Basic Law (Grundgesetz, GG)
• If you would like to apply for an identity card as a teenager more than 3 months before your 16th birthday, it is necessary to be accompanied by at least one of your legal guardians. In principle, however, the signatures of both your parents are required.
• It is sufficient if you as a parent or guardian apply for the ID card and the other parent or guardian has a declaration of consent presented.
• If you are the sole legal guardian, you must provide proof of custody or residence determination.

€22.80 for applicants under 24 years of age.

13,00€ surcharge for applications outside working hours or at a non-competent authority.

It usually takes at least 2 weeks from the date of application until you can pick up your identity card at the Bürgeramt.

At the latest when you turn 16 years old, you must apply for an identity card. Exception: You have a valid passport document.
