If you have an eID card and your address changes, you must also have your address changed on the chip of your eID card.
If you have an eID card and your address changes, you must also have your address changed on your eID card. If you have a main residence, you must go to the eID card authority at your main place of residence to change the address on your eID card. The eID card authority is the identity card authority. If you are not required to register, the eID card authority in whose district you live at the time of the change of address is responsible for you.
Your address will only be changed on the chip of your eID card because no address is printed on the card itself.
- You go in person to the eID card authority responsible for you.
- You present your current official registration confirmation and your valid eID card.
- The eID card authority will then change your address on the chip of the eID card free of charge.
eID card authorities pursuant to Section 6 (1) no. 1 of the eID Card Act of June 21, 2019 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 846), last amended by the Act of November 20, 2019 (Federal Law Gazette I p. 1626), are the identity card authorities pursuant to Section 89 (1) sentence 1 and (2) sentence 1 of the Hessian Law on Public Security and Order in conjunction with Section 1 sentence 1 no. 1 of the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Hessian Law on Public Safety and Order and the Hessian Voluntary Police Service Act of June 12, 2007 (GVBl. I p. 323), last amended by the Ordinance of January 20, 2020 (GVBl. p. 108).

- The eID card remains valid even if the current address is not stored on the chip.
