Food, Consumer Goods and Feed Code (LFGB)

The official control of feedingstuffs covers all levels of feed production and trade up to the agricultural holdings.

The legal basis for these controls is the EU Control Regulation (Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004) together with the Feed Control Programme for the years 2012 to 2016 " of the BMEL, BVL, BfR and the Länder This programme focuses on the following priorities:

• The control is intended to prevent risks in the food chain from being transmitted to humans via animals.
• The control of feedingstuffs is intended to ensure animal health.
• The purpose of the controls is to check the nutritional quality of the feedingstuffs, primarily by determining the valuable components.

The examination parameters include:

• Ingredients, for example crude protein, fat, energy content
• Additives, coccidiostats, trace elements and carry-over of pharmacological agents.
• Undesirable substances, e.g. dioxins, heavy metals, chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mycotoxins
• Pesticide
• Prohibited and prohibited substances

The controls shall cover premixtures, feed materials, complete feedingstuffs, complementary feedingstuffs and additives.

The Giessen Regional Council is responsible for feed control throughout Hesse.
