You intend to apply for admission to the preparatory service for a teaching post in NRW.

The most important principle for the procedure is equal opportunities for all applicants. The application always applies to the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. Please note that you are not entitled to training at a specific Center for Practical Teacher Training (ZfsL) or a specific training school. You can indicate your preferred location in the procedure and justify this with proof of social reasons. All parties involved endeavor to match the available training capacities, the number of applicants and the applicants' wishes.

The SEVON application portal (www.sevon.nrw.de) is designed to support and guide you with your application. North Rhine-Westphalia has been conducting two recruitment procedures per year for several years. Approximately 4,500 - 5,000 applicants across all teaching disciplines apply for each procedure. In order to do justice to your individual application and at the same time make the procedure efficient, the procedure was designed with IT support.

You should upload the following documents as part of the application process:

• Signed curriculum vitae with passport photo
• Birth certificate, certificate of parentage (copy) or copy of marriage certificate if applicable
• For married couples: Copy of the marriage certificate
• For civil partnerships: copy of the civil partnership certificate
• If applicable, copies of the birth certificate(s), certificate(s) of parentage of the child or children (also when applying for part-time preparatory service), pregnancy certificate with date of expected birth
• Copy of the university entrance qualification (e.g. school-leaving certificate)

Applicants who have completed their teacher training in North Rhine-Westphalia:

• certified copy of the certificate of the first state examination (must also be submitted by graduates of the North Rhine-Westphalian model experiment "Gestufte Studiengänge in der Lehrerausbildung", Bachelor's, Master's degree program under the old law) or
• a certified copy of the Master of Education degree certificate in accordance with the Teacher Admission Ordinance (under the new law) and
• certified copies of all university degrees (usually Bachelor's certificate) that were completed before the start of the North Rhine-Westphalian Master's degree program (Master of Education) under the new law (submission by the application deadline; please note the information below)
• If applicable, a certified copy of the certificate of an extension examination

Applicants who have completed their teacher training program outside the state of North Rhine-Westphalia:

• a certified copy of the certificate of the recognized examination(s) and
• a certified copy of the certificate of recognition and
• if applicable, a certified copy of the certificate of an extension examination with notice of recognition
• If applicable, certificate of practical experience (only for teaching at vocational colleges)
• Authorization to teach religious education for training in the subjects Protestant, Catholic or Islamic religious education
• Proof of successful completion of a first aid course and a certificate of completion of the German Life-Saving Badge (from the German Life-Saving Association, the German Red Cross or the Workers' Samaritan Federation) in gold, silver or bronze (the certificates must not be older than four years at the time of the recruitment date).
• If applicable, proof of the waiting period according to § 6 of the Teacher Training Act of 2009, last amended by the law of 2016 (e.g. in the case of military or civilian service)
• Proof of other social criteria, if applicable
• If applicable, registration certificate as proof of corresponding social criteria (not older than three months). Also when applying for part-time work to care for a close relative in need of care
• Copy of the valid residence permit, if applicable (only for non-EU nationals)
• Proof of measles protection according to § 20 para. 9 sentence 1 numbers 1 and 2 IfSG (a form is available for download at the end of the application and can be submitted later)
• If applicable, a medical certificate confirming that the nature and severity of the disability makes it necessary to complete the preparatory service part-time

You have the option of uploading documents at the end of the application process. It is not possible to send the application without an uploaded document. You can also use the application portal to upload and send additional documents within the application deadline. To do this, use the six-digit application ID sent to you and the Submit documents function.

Important: The Bachelor's certificate must be uploaded to this portal by the end of the application deadline, otherwise your application will not be accepted! Following the online application, please send a certified copy of your Bachelor's certificate and - if already available - your Master's certificate to the district government in whose jurisdiction your first choice of location lies.

Master of Education according to the Teacher Training Act of 2009 (LABG) with the following teaching degrees:

- Master of Education for the

• Teaching at elementary school
• Teaching degree for Hauptschulen, Realschulen, Sekundarschulen and Gesamtschulen (teaching degree according to the 2016 version of the LABG)
• Teaching degree at grammar schools and comprehensive schools
• Teaching degree at vocational colleges
• Teaching degree for special educational support

Recognition of teaching-related university degrees obtained in other federal states also leads to these teaching qualifications.

NRW also offers participation in the preparatory service for the expiring teaching degrees listed below:

- First state examination for the

• Teaching qualification for primary, lower secondary and intermediate secondary schools and the corresponding year groups of comprehensive schools
• Teaching degree at grammar schools and comprehensive schools
• Teaching profession at vocational colleges
• Teaching degree for special education

Applicants who have completed a Bachelor's/Master's degree course at the "model universities" in Bielefeld, Bochum, Dortmund, Münster and Wuppertal after the expiring pilot project "Staged degree courses in teacher training" will also receive a certificate for the First State Examination for the above-mentioned teaching qualifications from the State Examination Office for Teaching Qualifications at Schools.

Students who have completed or will complete their studies with one of the old teaching qualifications listed below will start the preparatory service for this teaching qualification for reasons of training law and take the second state examination for this teaching qualification:

• Teaching profession for the primary level
• Teaching degree for lower secondary level
• Teaching degree for secondary level II
• Teacher training for special education

You can only be accepted into the preparatory service for a teaching profession in the state of NRW if you apply via the online procedure(www.sevon.nrw.de) by the respective application deadline (cut-off deadline) and upload your application documents. During the application period, it is possible to submit additional documents online via the application portal. After the application deadline, the portal will be closed. Documents must then be submitted by post or presented in person.

Please take your time to complete the application form and upload your documents. Please note that the application portal will close after 60 minutes of inactivity. You will then have to log in again.

You will receive a confirmation email when you have successfully submitted your application and documents. Even if you upload and subsequently submit documents, communication will take place by e-mail. You should therefore regularly check the inbox of the e-mail account you have specified and also the spam folder. The district government will also send reminders of missing documents by e-mail.

The district governments will record your data, check your application documents and decide whether the location you may have claimed can be recognized.

After the application deadline, it will be checked whether a teaching profession is subject to admission restrictions. No decision can be made during the application process. If your teaching profession is subject to an admission restriction, you will be informed of this in writing.

For applicants who can choose a school form specialization, the training places in each school form of a school level are determined and distributed in a special allocation procedure.

The district governments send the offers to the applicants and assign them to a Center for Practical Teacher Training (ZfsL).

In the recruitment offer, you will also be informed about the assigned school form focus and the assigned training subjects. Applicants must submit the required documents (e.g. Master's certificate / certificate of good conduct) to the district government by the deadline (approx. 14 days before the recruitment date). Documents submitted late will result in exclusion from the procedure.

You will be assigned to the training schools by the centers for practical teacher training (ZfsL). The heads of the centers will issue you with the appointment certificates with effect from the start of the preparatory service.

At the end of the application section, you will be offered a cover letter to download which you can use to apply for a certificate of good conduct from the registration office in your place of residence. At the same time, you can download a form that you (or your doctor) can use to provide proof of the necessary measles protection.
