If you decide on a course within the vocational school, you have three different options with three objectives in NRW:

Course C 1

Goal:

Vocational qualification in accordance with state law and entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences

Educational program C 1

Goal:

Vocational qualification in accordance with state law (for those eligible to enter higher education)

Educational program C 2

Goal:

Professional knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the academic part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences

Course C 1 (vocational qualification according to state law and entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences):

If you are aiming for a vocational qualification in accordance with state law and the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, you will learn a profession in accordance with state law in these full-time school-based courses and can acquire the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences at the same time. This takes place in closely interlinked practical and theoretical lessons. The classroom is one place of learning among others. In addition, laboratories, workshops and special specialist rooms enable practical work, which is reinforced by integrated work placements.

Teaching:

The courses last three years.

In years 12 and 13, work placements of at least eight weeks in total are carried out.

Qualifications:

• Vocational qualification according to state law
• Entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences

Course C 1 (vocational qualification in accordance with state law for those eligible to enter higher education):

If you are aiming for a vocational qualification in accordance with state law (for those with a higher education entrance qualification) and have already acquired a higher education entrance qualification or the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, you will learn a profession in accordance with state law in these full-time school-based courses.

This takes place in closely interlinked practical and theoretical lessons. The classroom is one place of learning among others. In addition, laboratories, workshops and special specialist rooms enable practical work, which is reinforced by integrated work placements.

Teaching:

The courses last two years.
Work placements of at least eight weeks in total are carried out during the course.

Qualification:

Vocational qualification in accordance with state law.

Course C 2 (vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences)

In this full-time school-based course, you can acquire vocational knowledge, skills and abilities and have the opportunity to obtain the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences at the same time.

Teaching:

The course lasts two years. It is taught full-time.

Degree and qualifications:

• Professional knowledge, skills and abilities
• Entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (school-based part)

Follow-up options:

• Relevant six-month internship to obtain the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
• With entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences: Study at a university of applied sciences
• Dual vocational training
• Acquisition of the general higher education entrance qualification
• Further training at a technical college

The school management decides on admission to a higher vocational school.

This is a matter for the school authorities, if necessary:

• a copy of the last school report and
• possibly passport photos
• possibly further documents depending on the school.

Requirements for admission to a vocational school Annex C:

Anyone who has the intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife) or the entitlement to attend the upper secondary school level (gymnasiale Oberstufe) is admitted to course C 1 with the aim of obtaining a vocational qualification in accordance with state law and the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

Anyone who has the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or the general higher education entrance qualification is admitted to course C 1 with the aim of obtaining a vocational qualification in accordance with state law (for those entitled to enter higher education).

Anyone who has an intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife) or the entitlement to attend the upper secondary school level (gymnasiale Oberstufe) will be admitted to course C 2 with the aim of acquiring vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife.

• Pupils can register for higher vocational school via the Schüler Online(www.schueleranmeldung.de) internet portal.
• The respective vocational college decides on the application and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.

Shortened courses are offered for those with a higher education entrance qualification in which students can acquire a vocational qualification in accordance with state law.

If you have acquired the intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife) and vocational knowledge, skills and abilities or a vocational qualification in accordance with state law and the intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife) at a vocational school in accordance with Annex B, you can enter the second year of a corresponding course.

This also applies to students who have attended and successfully completed a vocational school listed in Annex C 2, which leads to vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the academic part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

Admission to a vocational school with qualification: Vocational qualification and entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, vocational qualification (for university entrants) and vocational qualifications and school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

• Enrolment at a vocational school
• Acquisition of vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or
• Acquisition of a vocational qualification in accordance with state law (for university entrants)
• Acquisition of a vocational qualification in accordance with state law and the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences
• The school management decides on admission.
