As a member of the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia, you are also a compulsory member of the Chamber of Architects' pension scheme. This guarantees you protection in old age or in the event of occupational disability. The pension fund grants survivors' pensions for your dependents in accordance with the statutes.

When you become a member of the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia, you automatically become a compulsory member of the pension fund of the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia.

As an employed member, you are compulsorily insured with the German pension insurance scheme in accordance with the provisions of the German Social Security Code. On application, employed architects can be exempted from compulsory insurance in the statutory pension insurance scheme in favor of the professional pension fund, provided that they do not carry out any non-professional activities.

The pension fund offers its members the following statutory benefits:

• retirement pensions
• occupational disability pensions
• Widows' and orphans' pensions
• Half-orphans' and full orphans' pensions
• Allowances to maintain or restore the ability to work if specific conditions are met

As a member of the pension fund, you pay your individual monthly pension contribution to the pension fund based on your income instead of to the statutory pension insurance scheme. The amount of the contribution does not differ from the contribution actually payable to the statutory pension insurance scheme. The contributions collected are saved individually. The pension fund is based on the principle of capital cover. This means that the pension fund invests the contributions of its insured members to build up assets and generates a significant surplus over the insurance period.

Membership of the pension fund is excluded for persons who are unable to work.
