If you have several homes and your main residence changes, you must inform your registration office. You can find out more here.
If you have several homes and your main residence changes, you must notify the relevant registration authority within 2 weeks.
The main residence is understood to be the home you primarily use. The predominant use is determined by your actual periods of residence. If this cannot be determined beyond doubt, the focus of your living relationships is decisive.
A secondary residence is any other residence that you have in Germany.
The following documents are required:
- Identity card, replacement identity card, passport or passport replacement document if the person required to register has reached the age of 16
- Identity documents of family members who are registered together on one registration form
- for children: Children's passport or birth certificate
- If applicable, deregistration at the registration office (if you have given up your previous main residence in another municipality)
- Certificate of residence
The registration authority may request the submission of further documents to verify the information (for example: birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree).
The following requirements must be met:
- You have several homes and
- Your main residence is changing or has changed.
You can change your main residence as follows:
- You fill out a registration form and sign it. Married or partnered persons and family members should use a joint registration form.
- The registration form can be dispensed with if the registration register is kept automatically and you appear in person. You then sign a printout from the registration register to confirm that the information is correct and complete.
- Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation of registration.
