Polling assistants are deployed on election day as members of the electoral boards to conduct the election in the polling station. Their tasks include, for example
- Checking voter eligibility based on the electoral roll,
- Issuing the ballot papers,
- releasing the ballot box for the ballot paper to be inserted,
- assisting in the determination of the election result.
Working as an election assistant is an honorary position. You must perform your duties impartially and are obliged to maintain confidentiality about any matters that come to your attention during your official duties. You may not cover your face while carrying out your duties.
Polling assistants are appointed by the municipal electoral authority. Preference is given to electoral assistants who volunteer for this honorary position.
Volunteer poll workers receive an expense allowance (so-called "refreshment allowance") for their work.
The procedure is as follows:
- You register with the electoral office.
- The mayor appoints you to the election committee.
