If you wish to burn logging residue in the forest, you must first submit an application to the forestry authority.
- The burning of logging waste in the forest is only permitted with the approval of the forestry authority. Legally, this is an approval of exceptions for the disposal of waste outside of authorized facilities. The application must be submitted prior to the burning of the waste material and the decision must be awaited. Applications for the granting of a permit are accepted by the responsible forestry offices.
Wald und Holz NRW is the responsible forestry authority for the approval of exemptions for the disposal of waste outside of authorized facilities in the case of the burning of logging residues in the forest. - Permission may be granted if this does not adversely affect the public good. Taking into account the general principles of the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act and, in particular, the principles of waste disposal in the public interest, the burning of logging residues can only be approved in exceptional cases at the discretion of the forestry authority if, for example, it is necessary for forest protection reasons and material/energy recovery is not possible.

In accordance with AVwGebO NRW, tariff item 7.5.1.15, fees of € 110-650 are charged for individual permits for the incineration of waste material.
