Zulassung zur Rechtsanwaltschaft beantragen

If you want to work as a lawyer, you need a license.

Prerequisites

• You are qualified to hold the office of judge in accordance with the German Judges Act or
• You meet the requirements for admission in accordance with the Act on the Activities of European Lawyers in Germany of March 9, 2000 (BGBl. I p. 182) or
• You have passed the aptitude test in accordance with this Act.

Admission becomes effective with the delivery of a certificate issued by the Bar Association.
This may only be issued once the applicant has been

• is sworn in and
• has provided proof that professional liability insurance has been taken out or has submitted a provisional cover note.

Upon admission, the applicant becomes a member of the admitting bar association. After admission, the activity may be practiced under the professional title "Rechtsanwältin" or "Rechtsanwalt".

• Proof of professional liability insurance or provisional confirmation of cover.

Admission to the bar can be applied for in any German country, even if the qualification to hold the office of judge was obtained in another German country.
