For the European elections, you will be included in the voters' register as a German or German ex officio or on request.
If you live in Germany as a German or German and would like to participate in the European elections, you must first be entered in the voters' register. This
is either done automatically ex officio or you have to submit an application for this.

You will be entered on the electoral roll ex officio if, on the 42nd day before the election,
- are Germans or Germans within the meaning of Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law,
- are at least 18 years old on election day,
- are not excluded from the right to vote,
- have your main residence or your sole apartment in Germany or
- Captain or
- are crew members of a seagoing vessel flying the German flag, or
- as an inland waterway skipper of an inland waterway vessel registered in the German ship register, or
- are registered as a relative or member of the corresponding household, or
- are registered at the address of a prison or similar institution in Germany.

If you
- are Germans or Germans within the meaning of Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law,
- are at least 18 years old on election day,
- are not excluded from the right to vote,
- have your habitual residence in Germany without an apartment or are in a prison without an ex officio registration.
You can register as a Domestic German or Domestic German as follows:
- You submit an informal application to the municipality responsible for you.
- The authority decides on the application and sends an election notification or a negative decision.

- responsible for the application: municipality,
- in which you have an apartment,
- in which one usually resides,
- in which the shipowner has his or her registered office,
- which is the place of origin of the inland waterway vessel, or
- in which the prison is located
