You need planning permission before you can make changes to a system that requires approval.

To do this, you submit a building application to the responsible lower building supervisory authority. As a rule, you must commission an authorized draftsman - for example a civil engineer or architect - for this.

In your application, you can also specify whether you wish to make use of a reduced inspection program.

• Extract from the official real estate register,

• building description.

If they are to be submitted, also:

• Proof of stability,
• fire protection certificate,
• Information on the secured development.

Please contact your local building supervisory authority to find out which documents you need to submit for your specific building project.

The fees depend on the following factors

• Expenditure for the examination of the building permit
• Expected costs of the construction work

You can apply for a building permit for the modification of an installation electronically via the online service or in writing on paper using the form.

Proceed as follows when using the form:

• Complete the form.
• Add the required building documents.
• Submit the application documents to the responsible lower building supervisory authority.
• If necessary, the lower building supervisory authority will ask you to make an advance fee payment.
• Make the advance payment.
• If documents are missing or if there are other ambiguities, you will be asked to rectify these.
• In this case, submit the missing or amended documents and/or the clarification.
• The lower building supervisory authority will review your application and involve the relevant authorities whose participation or consultation is required.
• You will then receive the building permit and a notification of fees.

Pay the fees.

The building supervisory authority will decide on your building application within 3 months. The deadline begins with the confirmed date of receipt.

In principle, your application is automatically approved if you have not received a decision from the building supervisory authority after 3 months.

You must start construction work within 3 years of receiving planning permission.

You may then interrupt the construction work for a maximum of 1 year.

You can have the building permit extended for 1 year.

If you have a building permit, you must submit a notice of commencement of construction to the lower building supervisory authority at least one week before the start of the change.
