Would you like to know whether there is a suspicion of contaminated sites or harmful soil changes on a property? Then you can apply for information from the register of contaminated sites from the relevant authority.
Areas suspected of being contaminated are old deposits and old sites where there is a suspicion of harmful soil changes or other hazards for individuals or the general public. Contaminated sites are plots of land belonging to decommissioned facilities and other plots of land on which environmentally hazardous substances have been handled. Old landfills are decommissioned waste disposal facilities and other land on which waste has been treated, stored or deposited. The competent authority maintains a register of contaminated sites in which areas suspected of being contaminated are registered. The landowner or other persons can obtain information about possible contaminated sites. For this purpose, an application for information from the register of contaminated sites can be submitted to the competent authority. To speed up the procedure, it is advisable to obtain the owner's consent in advance before providing information to persons who are not themselves the owners of the requested property. Otherwise, the authority must usually first hear the persons concerned.

To find out whether official information on contaminated sites or harmful soil changes is available for a property, you can submit an application for information from the register of contaminated sites. The relevant application form with the necessary information will be forwarded to the competent authority in whose jurisdiction the property in question is located. You will receive notification from the authority as to whether the property in question is registered in the register of contaminated sites and - after checking the access requirements - what information is recorded there. As the register of contaminated sites is continuously updated, this information on contaminated sites represents the current status. Changes can be made at a later date.
