Authorisation to sort eggs including the issue of an identification number in accordance with Article 5 of Regulation (EC) 2023/2466

Egg packing centres are businesses that sort, mark, pack and/or repack eggs according to quality and weight classes. Egg packing centres may only be operated if they have been approved under market law by the competent authority upon application and have been given a packing centre identification number.

Only businesses that fulfil certain conditions are approved as packing centres. They must have the following technical facilities that are necessary for the proper handling of eggs:

• an automatic or permanently manned candling system that enables the quality of individual eggs to be checked
• Equipment for determining the height of the air chamber
• a system for sorting eggs by weight class
• one or more calibrated scales for weighing the eggs
• Equipment for labelling eggs (if the eggs are given a producer code at the packing station)

Application form (original)

Procedural fee: EUR 13.00 to EUR 420.00

You apply to the competent body for authorisation as a packing station using the prescribed form.

• The competent authority will examine your application and you will receive a written decision on the outcome.
• If your application is approved, the authority will inform you of the identification number you need for labelling.

Note: The licence can be revoked if the necessary requirements are no longer met.
