Issue of identification numbers for hatcheries in accordance with Article 2(1) of Regulation (EC) No 617/2008
If you wish to run a business whose activity consists of placing hatching eggs in incubators, incubating these eggs and supplying chicks, you must apply to the competent authority for registration
The following businesses must be registered:
- Hatcheries with a capacity of 1,000 hatching eggs or more
- Breeding and multiplication farms with 100 animals or more

You can use the service of the Single Point of Contact for this procedure (Einheitlichen Ansprechpartner beauftragen). They will guide you through the procedure, take care of correspondence with all the authorities responsible for your request and provide you with expert advice.

- For organic farms: Proof of authorisation in accordance with Öko-Kontroll-VO
The responsible department will request further documents if required.
- Hatcheries with a capacity of 1,000 hatching eggs or more
- Breeding and multiplication farms with 100 animals or more
Apply in writing to the responsible department for registration of your hatchery; you can obtain the required form from this authority.
- Submit the completed and signed application by post together with the required documents and evidence.
- The competent authority will check your application and carry out an on-site inspection.
- Upon registration, your company will be assigned an identification number.
Notifying changes
Inform the authority immediately if there are any changes to your business. The notification can be made informally in writing or by e-mail.
Note: The identification number can be withdrawn from any business that does not comply with the provisions of the ordinance.

Documentation obligation
When registering as a hatchery, you must keep records in accordance with Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No. 617/2008. The information is broken down according to
