Reimbursement of costs for initiating or taking up employment subject to contributions in accordance with Section 44 of the Sozialgesetzbuch Drittes Buch (SGB III)
The Agentur für Arbeit (Employment Agency) can reimburse costs from the placement budget for initiating or taking up employment or training subject to contributions.
Funding from the placement budget is a discretionary benefit of active labour promotion and forms the basis for flexible, needs-based and unbureaucratic support for those seeking training, those at risk of unemployment and the unemployed. The amount of eligible costs is agreed individually with each entitled person and set out in an integration agreement. The employment agency can set flat rates. With your application, you must prove that you have actually incurred the costs.
The following can be subsidised
- Job applications,
- Travelling and trips to job interviews,
- necessary documents (e.g. notarised copies, translations),
- Relocation costs (if the relocation is due to a new job).
Abroad
Funding can also be provided for initiating or taking up employment subject to compulsory insurance with a working week of at least 15 hours in another member state of the European Union, another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or in Switzerland.
You will find out which documents need to be submitted when you submit your application.
- You are unemployed or at risk of unemployment.
- You are seeking employment subject to compulsory insurance or vocational training with an employer.
- Your chances of integration are significantly improved by the benefits from the placement budget.
- You are not in a position to bear the costs yourself (assessment of ability to pay)
- If the employer is legally obliged to bear the costs, for example for protective clothing, or if he/she provides similar benefits, funding from the placement budget is excluded.
- Funding was generally promised in the integration agreement.
You must apply for reimbursement of the costs from the placement budget. You can obtain the necessary application form
- at the Bundesagentur für Arbeit during counselling (career counselling, placement interviews),
- when registering your unemployment or job search or
- via the service centre.
An application for funding or reimbursement of costs from the placement budget must be submitted before any costs are incurred.
Note: You can apply for reimbursement of costs from the placement budget at any time. When travelling, whether with or without an invitation, as well as when travelling abroad, you must consult with the Employment Agency beforehand, unless something else has been specifically agreed with you. Please refer to your integration agreement or ask your responsible employment agency.
