As a lawyer in a state of the European Union (EU), or in another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you may work in Germany as an established lawyer under the professional title of your state of origin. In order to do so, you must have been admitted to the competent German Bar Association.
Note: If you have worked effectively and regularly in the field of German law, including Community law, for at least three years as an established European lawyer, you can be admitted to the German bar and bear the professional title "Rechtsanwalt". The exact requirements are set out in §§ 11 ff. Law on the Activity of European Lawyers in Germany (EuRAG).

You can submit the application using the application form, which you can obtain from the website of the Bar Association, or online via Amt24. Submit the completed application form with all required documents to the Bar Association.
Set up a service account in Amt24 for identification and authentication and use it to log in to the service portal. Have the required documents ready.
- Follow the link to the online application and complete the data fields according to the instructions. You can save the information at any time and complete it at a later date.
- Once all data fields have been filled in and the listed documents have been compiled, complete the application and the data will be sent to the responsible department.
- You will find the application confirmation in the inbox of your service account. You will receive a notification of incoming messages to your personal e-mail address.
Admission Procedure
- The requirements for admission are checked at the Bar Association's office.
- The admission procedure usually takes up to 8 weeks after submission of the required documents and data.
- If all admission requirements have been met, you will be invited to the swearing-in ceremony.
- Upon admission, you will also become a member of the Bar Association.
- After admission, you must use the professional title of your country of origin.
- You will receive your own special mailbox (beA).
- An appeal against the decision of the Bar Association can be lodged with the Saxon Bar Court.
