School and vocational qualifications or certificates of competence acquired or recognised by the state in the GDR continue to be valid in Saxony. On application and after its examination, the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs (Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Kultus) , as the supreme school supervisory authority, issues a notice in individual cases on the determination of the equivalence of the respective qualification with a corresponding Federal German qualification or provides information on the comparability.
The following documents must be enclosed with the application for a certificate:
- officially certified copies or transcripts of the complete school leaving certificate which is to be subjected to the equivalence assessment
- certified copy of the school leaving certificate of the general education school
- in the case of a change of name, proof of this (e.g. marriage certificate)
- a complete curriculum vitae in tablular form, signed by the applicant's own hand, with details of school education and vocational training
- if applicable, proof of professional activity until admission to the educational institution whose qualification is to be subject to the equivalence assessment
The relevant department of the Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs will inform you about the applicable fees (Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Kultus).
