Have you completed your educational qualification in the former GDR and would like to have it recognised? Upon application, the Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Kultus will check whether the school or vocational qualification from the GDR can be recognised as a Hauptschulabschluss or Mittlerer Schulabschluss.

You completed your schooling and vocational training in the former GDR in what is now the Free State of Saxony.

Usually, the following are recognised as secondary school leaving certificates

• Certificates from the eighth grade with a certificate of specialised work
• Certificates from the ninth grade with a transfer note

The following are recognised as intermediate school-leaving certificates

• Certificates from the tenth grade

If appropriate criteria are met (e.g. sufficient average grade and sufficient grade in the skilled labour examination), the intermediate school leaving certificate can also be awarded on the basis of the skilled labour certificate in conjunction with the eighth grade certificate.

The responsible department of the Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Kultus will inform you about the fees incurred for the recognition of your degree.

If you would like to study at a Saxon university, please contact the university in question directly.

• In all other cases, please contact the Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Kultus and submit your application with officially certified copies of your school-leaving certificates.
• After your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made regarding the equivalence of your educational qualification with a Saxon school-leaving certificate, you will receive a written notification.
