School and vocational qualifications or certificates of competence acquired or recognised by the state in the GDR continue to be valid in the Free State of Saxony.

Upon application, the State Office for Schools and Education (Landesamt für Schule und Bildung) shall issue a certificate of equivalence for degrees from the military technical school of the GDR with a technical school degree in the field of technology.

You will find out which documents have to be submitted for the recognition of your degree during the counselling interview.

The following documents must be enclosed with the application for a certificate:

• officially certified copies or transcripts of the complete school leaving certificate which is to be subjected to the equivalence assessment
• certified copy of the school leaving certificate of the general education school
• in the case of a change of name, proof of this
• a complete curriculum vitae in table form, signed by the applicant's own hand, with details of school education and vocational training
• if applicable, proof of professional activity up to the time of admission to the educational institution whose qualifications are to be subject to equivalence assessment

The Dresden office of the State Office for Schools and Education (Landesamt für Schule und Bildung) will inform you about fees and costs.

• Submit your application to the Dresden office of the State Office for Schools and Education with the required documents listed below.
• After your application has been examined and a decision has been made on the equivalence of your qualification or certificate of qualification with a German technical college qualification in the field of technology, you will receive a written decision.
