Upon application, educator qualifications obtained at vocational school level in accordance with the legal provisions of the former GDR can be recognised in a field of activity of the vocational qualification "State-recognised educator".

You have completed your training as an educator at technical college level in the former GDR.

The following professional qualifications can be recognised:

• day nursery teacher - in the day nursery field of activity
• kindergarten teacher - in the kindergarten field of activity
• group educator - in the kindergarten field of activity
• after-school care teacher - in the after-school care field of activity
• lower school teacher with the qualification to work in an after-school care centre - in the after-school care centre field of activity
• lower school teacher - in the after-school care centre field of activity
• teacher for lower grades - in the after-school care centre field of activity
• friendship pioneer leader with teaching qualification for lower grades - in the after-school care centre field of activity
• home educator - in the home field of activity
• educator for youth homes - in the field of activity of the home
• educators in youth work centres - in the home field of activity
• educators in homes and after-school care centres - in the home and after-school care centre field of activity
• lower school teachers with the qualification to work in residential and after-school care centres - in the residential and after-school care centre field of activity

Church educator qualifications

The qualifications as "children's deacon" and "educator in church service", which were acquired at church institutions in the former GDR, are equivalent to the qualification "state-recognised educator" if they were acquired at one of the following training institutions:

Submit your informal application with an officially certified copy of your leaving certificate to the State Office for Schools and Education (Landesamt für Schule und Bildung) (-> responsible office).

After your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made on the partial recognition of your educational certificate, you will receive a written notification with a certificate of recognition for a partial area.
