The social pass is a voluntary municipal service. It supports low-income families and citizens in their participation in social life. The discounts granted create greater mobility, enable participation in cultural and sporting activities and incentivise people to take advantage of the wide range of educational opportunities on offer.

As a rule, you must present at least the following documents:

• Identity card or passport
• Notice of receipt of Arbeitslosengeld II or social benefit

As a rule, you are entitled to apply if you receive

• Assistance with living expenses or basic security benefits in accordance with Sozialgesetzbuch XII
• Unemployment benefit or social benefit according to Sozialgesetzbuch II
• Benefits according to the Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz

Another requirement:

• You have your main residence in the city or municipality that issues the low-income pass

• Find out from the responsible department whether the Sozialpass is offered there.
• Find out which forms and other documents are required for the application.
• If you submit the complete application documents to the responsible department and all requirements are met, you will usually receive the pass immediately.

Period of validity: usually 12 months (extension on request)
