Application for an interest-free loan in accordance with § 3 of the Family Caregiver Leave Act (FPfZG)

As an employee, you can apply for an interest-free loan from the Federal Office of Family Affairs and Civil Society Functions (BAFzA) for the period in which you are caring for close relatives. The loan helps you to cushion the loss of earnings incurred during the leave of absence.

Leave of absence under the Caregiver Leave / Family Caregiver Leave Act for

• Care leave (Section 3 (1) of the Care Leave Act)
• Family care leave (Section 2 (1) of the Family Care Leave Act)
• Caring for minors in need of care (Section 2 (5) Family Caregiver Leave Act and Section 3 (5) Caregiver Leave Act)
• Support in the last phase of life (§ 3 Paragraph 6 Caregiver Leave Act)

Apply for the subsidised loan in writing using the prescribed forms.

• You can obtain the application form and other forms online from the BAFzA's Family Caregiver Leave service area (see-> Forms and other services)
• Complete the application form in full; it must contain the following information:
  • Your name and address
  • Name, address and family status of the carer
  • Duration of the leave of absence and information on whether a leave of absence was previously claimed
  • Amount, duration and details of the periods of the loan applied for
• Compile the necessary supporting documents.
• Submit the complete documents to the responsible office.

The Federal Office will check your application immediately and inform you whether and to what amount you will be granted a subsidised loan.
