Application for an assessment of the equivalence of a foreign professional qualification with the vocational school qualifications as an EDUCATOR, curative education nurse (vocational school level)

You can work in the Free State of Saxony with a foreign professional qualification as an educator or curative educator if the State Office for Schools and Education has confirmed the equivalence with a corresponding local specialised school qualification upon application.

In the Free State of Saxony, you have a legal right to have the equivalence of your foreign professional qualification checked with a state-regulated qualification from a specialised school for social services as a:

• State-recognised educator
• State-recognised curative education nurse

Note: You need full recognition if you wish to be employed in the Free State of Saxony as a specialist for working with children and young people, for example in day care centres.

You can use the service of the single point of contact for this procedure. He or she will guide you through the procedure, take care of correspondence with all the bodies responsible for your request, and provide you with expert advice.

• written application with a tabular list of the training courses completed and the gainful employment exercised, each in German
• Proof of identity (passport, identity card, residence permit) as a certified copy
• notarised copies of school and vocational training certificates obtained abroad and a German translation
• Proof of relevant professional experience or other certificates of qualification, each in the form of a certified copy and a German translation
• Declaration that no application for determination of equivalence has yet been submitted
• Certificate of authorisation to practise the profession in the country of training, if the profession is also regulated there
• Declaration with suitable evidence that the applicant intends to work in the Free State of Saxony in accordance with the professional qualification (not applicable for applicants residing in a member state of the EU, the EEA or a state treated as such by agreement or for nationals of these states)

Important: Translations must be prepared by a publicly appointed and sworn interpreter or translator.

• You are applying for recognition of your foreign professional qualification in Germany for the first time.

• Administrative fee: EUR 20.00 to EUR 600.00 (depending on expenditure)

Before submitting your application, seek advice from the staff at the IBAS information and advice centre or directly from the State Office for Schools and Education. Counselling is free of charge and confidential.

• You can apply for recognition of your professional qualification at the State Office for Schools and Education ("competent authority").
• You can submit the application and the required documents by post, in person or electronically (electronic access for encrypted and signed messages exclusively via anerkennung-beruf-ausland@sbad.sachsen.de).
• As soon as your application documents have been submitted in full, the competent body will examine them and may request further documents.
• The examination is carried out according to defined formal criteria (in particular the content and duration of the training). Your professional experience will be taken into account, as will other relevant qualifications (especially further and advanced training).
• You will receive written notification of the results of the examination. This will also indicate which qualifications you may lack for full recognition and how you can compensate for these.

Electronic signature - how can I sign electronically?

A qualified electronic signature is required to fulfil the signature requirement for electronic applications. This is the only way to ensure that the identity of the sender can be reliably established.

Your application and the necessary declarations require your handwritten signature. Under German law, your application form must be provided with a qualified electronic signature in order to be considered signed. You will need an appropriate programme for this. You can obtain electronic signatures from:

• Trust service providers (according to the list of the Federal Network Agency) or
• the Bundesdruckerei (for citizens with a new ID card/nPA or electronic residence permit)
