You can apply online to the State Law Examination Office for admission to the compulsory state examination in the Free State of Saxony.
After completing your law degree, you must take the First Law Examination. This is divided into a state compulsory subject examination and a university specialisation examination. Students at the Faculty of Law at Leipzig University can use this application to apply for admission to the compulsory state examination, which is organised by the Saxony State Justice Examination Office. Examination registration takes place exclusively via the electronic form.
- Handwritten curriculum vitae with photograph
- Proof of participation in practical study periods of at least 90 days during the lecture-free period
- Letter of recognition of study periods or study and examination achievements at other universities
Provided by Leipzig University:
- Certificate of study progress
- Documentary evidence of proper study programme
- Proof of successful participation in the exercises for advanced students in civil law, criminal law and public law
- Proof of participation in a course on key qualifications
- Foreign language certificate
- Completion of at least four and a half years of law studies, including the two semesters immediately preceding the examination at the Faculty of Law at Leipzig University

Apply online for admission to the compulsory state examination (see -> Online application). You can also submit the required documents electronically in this way.
- Fill in the data fields according to the instructions. You can save the information at any time and complete it at a later date.
- Make sure you enter the correct e-mail address, as this will be used for communication during the examination procedure. You will be asked for this again at the end of the application.
- You can upload all the necessary documents in the online application or send them by post to the Saxony Judicial Examination Office.
- Once all data fields have been completed, you finalise the application and the data is sent to the relevant office.
Once your complete application and the required supporting documents have been submitted, the State Judicial Examination Office will issue a letter of admission.
Instructions for using the online application: Please only use browsers that are common for the Windows operating system (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge) to submit your application. Individual attachments that you attach to the application should not be larger than 2 MB. The total amount of data must not exceed 15 MB.

Please refrain from enquiries about the processing status. If any documents are missing, they will be requested by the State Examination Office.
- Application deadline: 15 May/15 December for the examination date immediately following the end of the lecture period of the respective semester
- Application for grade improvement:
- up to two months before the start of the examination date
- for a shorter period between taking the oral examination and the next examination date: immediately after taking the oral examination
