On the basis of the certification made in the birth register, you can apply for a birth certificate for a home birth.
The following documents are required to register a home birth:
- for parents who are married to each other
- Birth certificates of the parents
- Marriage certificate or a notarized printout from the marriage register,
- for parents who are not married to each other
- Birth certificate of the mother
- if paternity has already been recognized:
- Declarations of acknowledgment of paternity and the mother's declaration of consent
- Birth certificate of the father
- if applicable, the declarations of custody
- identity card, passport or a recognized passport replacement document of the parents
- a certificate of birth issued by a doctor, midwife or maternity nurse if they were present at the birth.
A marriage certificate must also be submitted if the marriage is now divorced or the husband is deceased.
As a rule, you must present the originals of all certificates and documents for certification at the registry office.
There is no charge for registering a birth at the registry office.
Fee for a birth certificate: 14 euros
Fee for a certified printout: 14 euros
Fee for a multilingual birth certificate: 14 euros
Fee for issuing a translation aid (multilingual form in accordance with Art. 7 Regulation (EU) No. 2016/1191): 14 euros
Fee for each additional copy if requested at the same time as the first copy: EUR 7
Fee for a birth certificate to apply for child benefit and/or parental benefit: none
- You report the home birth of the child verbally or in writing to the relevant registry office.
- If necessary, make an appointment before you appear in person at the registry office to register the birth.
- Submit the required documents (originals) to the registry office.
- The birth will be certified by the registry office.
- You can obtain birth certificates.
The birth of a child must be reported to the registry office in whose jurisdiction it was born within one week.
If a child is stillborn, notification must be made no later than the third working day following the birth.
- Birth certificate issue for home births
- The birth of a child must be reported to the registry office responsible for the place of birth.
- In the case of a home birth, the birth must be reported verbally or in writing by a parent with custody.
- If the parents are unable to report the birth, the birth must be reported by another person who was present at the birth.
- Deadline: Notification must be made within one week.
- There is no charge for the notification.
- The registry office will issue a birth certificate on request.
- If your child was born at home, you must report the birth to the registry office in whose jurisdiction it was born.
- The Saarland has made use of the option granted by the Civil Status Act to set up a central electronic civil status register at state level. This enables citizens throughout Saarland to obtain information from Saarland civil status registers or civil status certificates from all registry offices, provided that the civil status cases are recorded electronically. This has regularly been the case since 2009.
