If you would like to take the hunter examination, you must apply for admission to the hunter examination.
In order to be admitted to the hunting examination, you must provide evidence of comprehensive training. This includes at least 120 hours of instruction in all relevant subject areas such as weapon handling, game diseases and nature conservation. The training includes both theoretical and practical components, which you can complete at the Saarland Hunters' Association or a recognized hunting school.
Your application for admission to the examination must be submitted at least five weeks before the start of the examination, together with a current police clearance certificate. After successfully passing the examination, you will receive a certificate that entitles you to apply for a hunting license.

If you wish to apply for admission to the hunting examination, you can submit the application in writing or, if available, online. You can obtain the application form from the relevant office or, depending on the service, it can be downloaded from the Internet. It is also possible to use an online service. The procedure does not change:
- First, you must register with the Saarland Hunters' Association or a recognized private hunting school for the preparatory course for the hunting test.
- Complete the required theoretical and practical training units, which comprise a total of 120 hours.
- Collect all the necessary documents, including your police clearance certificate and proof of shooting achievements.
- Submit the application for admission to the examination to the Saarland Hunters' Association at least five weeks before the start of the examination.
- After examining your documents, the examiner will decide on your admission.
- If you are successfully admitted, you will take the examination, which consists of three parts: Weapons handling, written examination and oral-practical examination.
- After the examination, you will receive the results and your examination certificate. This certificate confirms that you have successfully passed the hunting examination and entitles you to apply for a hunting license.
- Appeal against decisions: Information on lodging an appeal in the event of a negative decision on examination admission or the annulment of an examination certificate is included in the notification.
- Legal action before the administrative court: Possibility of legal action in the event of rejection of examination admission or other negative decisions.
