The preparatory service/traineeship and lateral entry generally lasts 18 months and ends with the state examination.
The lateral entry usually lasts 2 years. The state examination is not taken after the lateral entry qualification.
After completing a teacher training course with a First State Examination or a Master of Education, proof of a successful state examination is required for permanent employment at public schools in Schleswig-Holstein. This is obtained after an 18-month preparatory service for the teaching profession studied.
If there are not enough applicants who have studied a teaching profession, a lateral or side entry can also be offered.
Lateral entry:
Graduates of universities and equivalent institutions of higher education who have completed a degree course (Diplom/Magister/Master's) in subjects or disciplines in which there is an urgent need can apply for lateral entry. A Master's degree is required for graduates of universities of applied sciences.
Lateral entry:
If no suitable teachers with a successful state examination apply for job advertisements at schools, these positions can be advertised for lateral entry. Graduates of universities and equivalent institutions of higher education who have a degree (Diplom/Magister/Master's) in the desired subjects or subject areas can apply. A Master's degree is required for graduates of universities of applied sciences. For lateral entry, several years of practical professional experience is required in addition to a degree.
Applications for the preparatory service/traineeship must be submitted in full by April 1 of a year (recruitment date August 1 of the same year) or October 1 of a year (recruitment date February 1 of the following year) via the "online school job market".
