If you are an entrepreneur and have a mining operation, you must submit statistical data on employees and operational processes in mining to the competent mining authority.
If your company is active in the mining industry, you must provide statistical data on employees and operational processes. There are legal deadlines for this throughout Germany. The statistical information is for precautionary purposes and is intended to protect the general public, individuals and the environment.
The mandatory reports include information on, for example
- safety-relevant equipment in underground coal mines
- the status of alignment, equipment and extraction in underground coal mining
- Exceedance of limit values with regard to noise or temperature at underground operating points
- Measures to combat dust and silicosis
- Number of employees and apprentices, including those joining and leaving the company
- Strength and composition of the mine and gas protection team
- Meters drilled above ground from boreholes subject to operational planning
- Surface operating areas of more than 1 hectare
- In the case of underground operating areas, the areas used for stockpiles and ponds of more than 1 hectare
- recoverable extraction volume and the volume of products in processing
These reports can be submitted either
- by you as a company or
- by community organizations on your behalf.
You can submit statistical data online via the "BergPass" platform or directly to your competent mountain authority.
Submit statistical data online via the "BergPass" platform:
- Call up the "BergPass" online platform and log in.

- To register, you will need a BundID and an identity card or residence permit with an active online ID function.
- Call up the application form and fill out the application completely and truthfully.
- Upload the required documents as a file and send the notification.
Submit statistical data directly to the responsible mining authority:
- Contact your competent mining authority and coordinate the required documents.
- Submit the application and all required documents to your competent mining authority.
Further procedural steps:
- The competent mining authority will check your details and the documents submitted. If any documents are missing, the mining authority will contact you.
As an entrepreneur in the mining industry, you must provide statistical information on employees and operational processes. You must submit the required information to the responsible mining authority at different times.
By the end of February:
- based on September 15 of the previous year, the safety-relevant equipment in underground coal mining
- based on the month of October of the previous year, the operational status of the alignment, equipment and extraction in underground hard coal mining
- based on the month of November of the previous year:
- the status of dust and silicosis control measures in operations at risk of dust and silicosis
- the number of underground operating points where a noise assessment level of 85 decibels (frequency weighting curve A) has been exceeded and the number of shifts worked there
- as of December 31 of the previous year:
- the number of all employees and trainees
- the strength and composition of the mine and gas protection units
- the number of all employees, including additions and departures, and the hours worked
- in relation to the previous year:
- the meters drilled by surface miners for boreholes subject to operational planning
- the operating areas of more than 1 hectare for opencast mines and the areas reclaimed therefrom as well as the areas of more than 1 hectare used for stockpiles and ponds in the case of underground extraction
- for other mining operations, the raw and usable extraction quantity and the quantity of products in processing operations
By the 15th of April and October:
- in relation to the months of January and July:
- the number of underground operating points at which the prescribed lower temperature or climate limits have been exceeded, as well as the number of shifts operated there
By the end of each month:
- in relation to the previous month:
- for hard coal and lignite mining, the recoverable output and the quantity of products in processing plants

- Companies operating in the mining industry must provide certain statistics on employees and operational processes at specified times
