The old vehicle registration certificate is automatically exchanged for the new registration certificate Part I if it is lost.

There is no general obligation to exchange the old vehicle registration certificate for the new registration certificate part I (ZB I). However, old and new documents may not coexist for a vehicle. In the event of an exchange, the old vehicle registration certificate is destroyed and replaced by the registration certificate Part I.
If a new vehicle registration document has to be issued anyway, for example because it has been lost (regardless of whether the old vehicle registration document is still available), it is automatically exchanged. In this case, the old vehicle registration document must be presented to the registration office.

Fees are charged in accordance with the scale of fees for road traffic measures. Further information can be obtained from the vehicle registration authority.

The transfer of entries in the "Remarks" field of the previous vehicle registration certificate to the new ZB I sometimes causes problems. In principle, the new box 22 of the ZB I is used to transfer the entries from box 33 "Remarks" of the previous vehicle registration document. If there is not enough space there, a supplementary sheet is issued, sometimes also attached.

Check that all information has been transferred correctly when the new documents are issued and complain about any discrepancies as soon as possible.

To the district or independent city (registration office). Responsibility is based on the place of residence of the vehicle owner (main residence according to the identity card).

In the case of legal entities, it is the registered office of the main branch or the registered office of the branch; this also applies to a general partnership, limited partnership or for traders and self-employed persons with a fixed place of business.
