If you would like to work as a lawyer and open a law firm in the district of the Karlsruhe Bar Association and have not yet been admitted to the bar elsewhere in Germany, you must apply for admission as an established lawyer in accordance with Sections 4 et seq. BRAO.
- officially certified copy of the certificate from the 2nd state examination or of passing the aptitude test
- Curriculum vitae with photograph
- Proof of professional liability insurance in accordance with § 51 BRAO
- Confirmation of legal practice
- officially certified copy of the doctoral certificate
- Proof of "knowledge of professional law" in accordance with § 43 f. BRAO (at least 10 hours)

You must submit the application in writing to the Karlsruhe Bar Association. You can obtain the application form directly from the Bar Association or you can download it online in the download area of the Bar Association (pdf). The application must be signed by hand.
If you fulfil the requirements for admission, you will be sworn in and admitted by the Bar Association. Once you have been admitted, you will become a member of the Karlsruhe Bar Association. You may then practise your profession under the professional title "Rechtsanwalt" or "Rechtsanwalt".
You can lodge an objection against a negative decision by the Karlsruhe Bar Association with the Karlsruhe Bar Association as the issuing authority within one month of notification in writing or for the record, in accordance with Section 32 BRAO in conjunction with Sections 112a, 112c BRAO. Pursuant to Section 3a (2) of the Administrative Procedure Act, the written form may be replaced by the electronic form. An electronic document that is provided with a qualified electronic signature in accordance with the Signature Act fulfils the electronic form requirement.
