If you are authorised to inspect the land register, you can obtain a
- A printout or copy if the land register is kept in computerised form,
- A copy if the land register is exceptionally still kept in paper form.
- Identity card or passport
- if you are not the owner: Documents proving the legitimate interest in the inspection
- if you are represented: written authorisation from the person who is authorised to submit an application
The prerequisite is a legitimate interest.
In order to obtain a copy or a printout from the land register, you must demonstrate this credibly. In case of doubt, you must prove that you have a legitimate interest. As the owner of a property, for example, you can submit an application. You can also apply for a copy as a creditor if you wish to pursue enforcement proceedings.
The costs vary depending on where you have submitted the application.
a) Costs at the land registry:
- Printout or uncertified copy from the land register: EUR 10.00
- official printout or certified copy from the land register: EUR 20.00
b) Costs at the notary:
- Printout: EUR 10.00
- notarised printout (copy): EUR 15.00
- Turnover tax
- Expenses for retrieving the land register: usually EUR 8.00
- Postage costs such as postage
The individual types of costs can be found in the list of costs for the German Court and Notary Costs Act (GNotKG) under the respective numbers.
Note: The total costs always depend on the specific services provided by the notary in your individual case.
The land registry, the notary or the notary public may request an advance payment.
Please note: If private service providers offer to obtain land register printouts on the Internet, this may involve considerable additional costs.
You must apply for a copy of the land register or a printout of the land register. You can do this in person or in writing. The local courts maintaining the land register also provide an online form for this purpose on their respective websites.
You can also be represented by another person when submitting the application. If this person is not entered in the land register as the owner and is therefore entitled to file an application, you must authorise them. You can issue a power of attorney for this individual case or as a general power of attorney.
Please note: The land register is now regularly kept in computerised form as an automated file. In such cases, you will receive
- a printout or a copy issued by a notary instead of a copyprintout
- an official printout or a notarised printout issued by a notary instead of a certified copy.
If the land register is computerised, any land registry office can issue you with a printout. For data protection reasons, the land register printout is usually sent by post and not unencrypted via the Internet.

Decisions of the clerk of the registry can be contested by means of a reminder.
Appeals may be lodged against other decisions of the land registry. Appeals against an entry can only be lodged with the aim of entering an official objection or cancellation.
