If your address changes, you must also have your address changed on your eID card.

If you have a main residence, you must go to the eID card authority responsible for you at your main place of residence to change the address on your eID card.

If you do not have a main residence, you can change your address at the eID card authority at your current place of residence.

Your address will only be changed on the chip of your eID card, as no address is printed on the card itself.

• valid eID card
• recognised and valid foreign passport or identity card
• Current official confirmation of registration

• You have a valid eID card.
• You have moved house.

If you use the online service for electronic residence registration (eWA):

• You know your personal six-digit PIN.
• You have a smartphone with an NFC interface or a card reader.
• You have installed the AusweisApp on your smartphone, tablet or PC.
• You have a user account (e.g. BundID).

There are no costs.

You use the digital online service for electronic residence registration:

• Your address is automatically changed on the chip of your eID card.

or

You register in person at the eID card authority at your new place of residence:

• You present your current official registration confirmation, your recognised and valid foreign passport or identity card and your valid eID card and your valid eID card.
• The eID card authority will then change your address in the chip of your eID card free of charge.

There is no statutory processing time.

You must have your new address changed immediately on the chip of your eID card or change it online yourself.

You can only change the address on the chip of your eID card online if you register a new place of residence at the same time.
