Depending on the municipality, the senior citizens' pass offers, for example, the opportunity to visit museums or exhibitions free of charge or at a reduced rate and to take part in lectures, training courses, excursions or various other activities.

The aim of the senior citizens' pass is to make it easier or possible for older citizens, especially those with lower incomes, to maintain contact with their peers and to actively participate in social life.

The senior citizens' pass usually has to be applied for again every year.
