Elementary school in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern comprises grades one to four.
All children who reach the age of six by June 30 are required to attend school on August 1 of the same calendar year.
As a rule, enrollment in the elementary school must be completed by the end of the enrollment period. The specific enrolment date is announced publicly by the school authority. The responsible elementary school can be found in the respective statutes on the determination of school catchment areas. If congruent school catchment areas have been established for a place of residence, the child can be enrolled at the school of his/her choice.
Proof of sufficient vaccination protection or immunity against measles must be presented. If vaccination against measles is not possible for medical reasons, appropriate proof will be required.
- Original birth certificate of the child
- Identity card to establish identity
- Proof of sole custody, if applicable
- If applicable, power of attorney and copy of the identity card of the legal guardian who is unable to attend the registration in person
- Vaccination certificate or medical certificate (measles protection)
- Letter from the school authority regarding school registration
- Proof of the school entry examination
- Proof of the child's level of development from the daycare center
- Before admission to school, you are obliged to have your child examined by a school doctor.
- Proof of developmental status from the daycare center and proof of sufficient vaccination protection or immunity against measles or a medical contraindication against a measles vaccination must be submitted.
Parents/guardians must register their children in good time at the local elementary school or an independent school. The exact dates for enrolment are announced by the school authority (e.g. on the notice board in the daycare center, via the Internet or press releases). When registering, parents/guardians are informed of the dates in preparation for school enrollment. It is also important that the development reports from the daycare center are passed on to the receiving elementary school. This data transfer requires the consent of the legal guardians. You will find the consent form and explanatory information in the notification to parents.
If there is no admission capacity and admission can only take place at the second-choice school, the school management will issue an admission decision in which only the admission to the second-choice school is decided. Admission to the second-choice school means rejection at the first-choice school. Appeals against this will be processed by the State Education Authority.
If there is also no admission capacity at the second-choice school or if parents or guardians have not indicated a second choice, the allocation procedure is initiated at the State Education Authority. The State Education Authority will check which school still has admission capacity that is reasonably close to the pupil. The parents/guardians are consulted before the intended allocation. The consultation period should not be less than 10 days, taking into account postal delivery times. If the State Education Authority comes to the conclusion that there is no case of hardship and that the school management could not take this into account due to the distance between the place of residence and the desired school within the framework of the admission capacity, the allocation is made by notification. Appeals lodged against the allocation decisions are processed by the State Education Authority.
24-26 weeks (mid-October/mid-November to the end of April)
Or
School place allocations are only possible after completion of all school entry examinations by the responsible health authority and all corresponding individual allocations (example: DFK).
Incorrect or incomplete information about the school-age child or the person with custody will lead to a delay in school admission.
In particular, incorrect information regarding permanent residence can lead to a new decision on school admission.
You can lodge an appeal against the allocation decisions of the school or the State Education Authority.
