If you are interested in a study place in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry or pharmacy, you must apply via Hochschulstart.

The number of prospective students in Germany exceeds the number of available study places. Through central coordination, Hochschulstart ensures that each applicant receives only one study place and that all available study places are allocated.

The following degree programs are subject to admission restrictions throughout Germany:

• Medicine,
• veterinary medicine,
• Dentistry
• Pharmacy

If you are interested in one of these study programs, you must apply at Hochschulstart. You cannot apply directly to the university.

Hochschulstart will check whether you can get a study place on the basis of the documents submitted and will advise you comprehensively on questions regarding the allocation of study places.

  • voluntary services

You can find out which documents are required in your case on the application form.

• You have a university entrance qualification (for example, high school diploma)
• You meet the individual requirements for the course of study (for example, Abitur grade)

In the application portal you have to put your applications in a desired order. The applications will be forwarded to the universities. You may have to submit additional documents to the universities. Hochschulstart or the universities rank the applicants on ranking lists. Depending on where you are on the ranking list, you will receive an offer of admission that you can accept. If you do not want to accept the offer yet, you can wait to see if you also receive an offer with your other applications.

Subordinate offers are automatically eliminated from the procedure.

At the end of the procedure, you will then receive a study place for the best possible offer.

The application process takes 3 to 6 months.

For a winter semester, you must apply online by July 15. You may submit written materials by July 21.

If you have received your university credentials (e.g., high school diploma) before January 16 of the year of your application, you must apply by May 31 and may submit written materials by June 15.

For a summer term, you must apply online by January 15. You may submit written materials by January 21.
