If you are a private individual and wish to set off small fireworks outside of the New Year, you require a special permit.

You must apply for this in advance and may be subject to conditions.

You need to apply for a permit in advance to set off fireworks outside the turn of the year.

If you are at least 18 years old, you may set off category F2 pyrotechnics (small fireworks) on 31.12. and 01.01. of each year without a special permit from the authorities.

For the rest of the year, you may only set off fireworks if you are in possession of an explosives permit or a certificate of competence.

Outside of the turn of the year, however, you can apply for an exemption permit as a private individual if you are at least 18 years old for special occasions (such as a wedding).

The local explosives authority will check your application to see whether there is a danger from the small fireworks, whether there is a justified reason and whether all relevant documents have been submitted.

The competent authority may approve exceptions in justified cases. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the local competent explosives authority decides at its own discretion whether exceptions are granted in principle and to what extent.

You must submit the application to the local explosives authority responsible for the place of burning. The specific information required must be considered on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the location, scope and occasion of the fireworks display, the proximity to objects at risk of fire or objects requiring special protection, for example, may be important.
