The coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are protected and may only be used under certain conditions and with prior permission.
The state coats of arms of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are protected and may in principle only be used by the authorities and institutions of the state. Deviating from this reservation of use, a use of the state coats of arms is possible in principle with permission, provided that you intend the representation of the state coats of arms for predominantly artistic or heraldic-scientific purposes or purposes of instruction or civic education. For this purpose, an informal application with a description of use as concrete as possible and possibly a graphic representation must first be sent to the responsible Ministry of the Interior, Construction and Digitalization of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has two coats of arms, which differ in appearance.
The large state coat of arms shows a four-part shield. In its upper right and lower left field, from the point of view of the bearer, which is decisive for the description of coats of arms, there are bull heads on a golden background. The bull heads represent the former Mecklenburg grand duchies, i.e. Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The red griffin on a silver background in the upper left field represents Vorpommern. In the fourth field, the Brandenburg eagle refers to the historically close ties between Pomerania and Brandenburg.
The small state coat of arms is divided into two parts. From the point of view of the bearer, which is decisive for the description of coats of arms, there is the Mecklenburg bull's head in the right half above a golden background. To his side in the left half of the coat of arms is the red Pomeranian griffin on a silver background.
The use of the large and small state coat of arms is permitted according to §§ 1 f. Hoheitszeichenverordnung (HzVO M-V), the use of the large and small state coat of arms is in principle only permitted to the authorities and institutions of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The large state coat of arms is used, among others, by the state parliament and the president of the state parliament as well as the minister president and the ministries. In addition, various institutions - such as the state constitutional court and the ombudsman - have the right to use the large state coat of arms. Subordinate institutions use the two-part, so-called small state coat of arms.
According to § 3 HzVO M-V, the right to use a coat of arms includes the authority to use it in seals and letterheads, on official printed matter and official signs. The small state coat of arms is used for the marking of official clothing in the public service.
The use of the national coat of arms must serve predominantly artistic or heraldic-scientific purposes or intend purposes of the instruction or the civic education.
You must submit an informal application.
The application should contain as concrete a description of use as possible and possibly a graphic representation.
