Official recognition of experts for the acceptance of expert examinations for keepers of dangerous animals (§§ 1 and 9 of the Thuringian Expert Examination Ordinance).
Anyone wishing to conduct expert examinations in accordance with § 5 of the Thuringian Law for the Protection of the Population against Animal Dangers of 22 June 2011 (GVBl. Page 93) in the currently applicable version (ThürTierGefG) for keepers of dangerous animals requires official recognition as a competent person/expert by the Thuringian State Administration Office in agreement with the State Office for Consumer Protection. Once recognized, the qualified person/expert is entered in a list maintained by the Thuringian State Administration Office for the Free State of Thuringia (Sections 1 and 9 of the Thuringian Qualification Examination Ordinance of January 19, 2012 (GVBl. Page 49), as amended (ThürSachkundePrüfVO)).

- Public official or practicing veterinarian; or
- Persons who, by virtue of their professional training or other professional experience, have demonstrated knowledge and skill in the keeping of dangerous animals, or
- appointed trainer for dogs in service, rescue, therapy, guide dogs for the blind or
- guide dogs for the disabled or
- special aptitude through many years of experience in handling dangerous animals
- equivalent recognition in another EU country or another federal state
Before commencing work, the competent person must attend instruction on the uniform application of the expert examination at the Thuringian State Administration Office (Section 1 (3) ThürSachkundePrüfVO). In accordance with Section 1 of the Obligations Act, the competent person is obliged to perform his or her duties conscientiously. He or she must regularly attend further training events - at least one specialist further training event within two years - and must provide evidence of this to the Thuringian State Administration Office in the form of suitable documents (Section 1 (3) sentences 3 to 5 ThürSachkundePrüfVO).

- Anyone wishing to carry out expert examinations for owners of dangerous animals requires official recognition as a competent person/expert.
- After recognition, the competent person/expert is entered in a list maintained by the Thuringian State Administration Office for the Free State of Thuringia.
- Certain requirements must be met.
- Written application with the required documents must be submitted.
- Fees will be charged.
