- You are subject to German name law and have several first names.
- For a person with limited legal capacity, the legal representative makes the application (father, mother, guardian, custodian).
A fee of €25.00 is charged in Thuringia for the declaration to change the order of first names. A new birth certificate costs € 10.00.
You submit the declaration to change the order of your first names personally at the registry office. The declaration can be certified by any German registry office. The validity of the submitted declaration is checked by the registry office that keeps the birth entry. From there you will also receive a certificate of the new name or an amended birth certificate.
Note: As soon as the change has become effective, you must have various documents (for example, identity card or passport) changed. You must apply for these changes yourself.
If the change is successful, there will be subsequent costs, as you will have to reapply for documents such as your ID card or passport.
