If you wish to exhibit animals at different locations, you must notify the competent authority in advance.
Special obligations apply to events with animals. As an event organizer, you must report certain animal events at different locations. This includes
- non-commercial circus operations
- the commercial exhibition of animals
- and other establishments where animals are put on display
You must notify the competent authority at the venue of these types of animal events at changing locations prior to arrival.
Under certain circumstances, the competent authority may restrict or prohibit events of this type.
This may be necessary in the event of an animal epidemic, for example. The competent authority will inform you of any restrictions or bans.

You require a permit in accordance with § 11 of the Animal Protection Act (not applicable to non-commercial circuses).
You must register non-commercial circuses and other facilities for the exhibition of animals in changing locations. This is done with the competent authority. You can submitthis notification informally.
If you wish to submit the notification informally:
- Describe your request and provide all the necessary information:
- Details of the organizer and the person responsible
-Place, time and period of the event
-Details of the animal species exhibited
-Details of the rooms and facilities intended for the exhibition - Submit the required documents.
- Send the application to the competent authority by e-mail or post.
- Your notification will be received by the competent authority.
- You will receive a confirmation.
- The competent authority will contact you if there are any queries regarding the notification.
- In the event of a restriction or ban, you will receive a reply.
- Duration (with margin): approx. 1 to 3 weeks
- The processing time depends on the scope of the advertisement.
Additional animal health regulations apply to certain events involving animals. For example, the regulations of the Ordinance on Protection against Avian Influenza (Avian Influenza Ordinance) must be observed. Please contact the relevant veterinary and food inspection office in good time for more information.
