Anyone wishing to hunt in Germany must have a hunting license in their name (Section 15 (1) of the Federal Hunting Act).
The hunting license is issued by the authority responsible for the applicant's place of residence as an annual hunting license for a maximum of three hunting years (Section 11 (4) of the Federal Hunting Act) or as a daily hunting license for fourteen consecutive days in accordance with uniform models.
The hunting license is valid throughout the entire federal territory (Section 15 (2) of the Federal Hunting Act).
The first issue of a hunting license is dependent on the applicant having passed a hunting examination within the area of application of this Act.

The issue of a hunting license is subject to a fee. The total amount is made up of the administrative fee and the hunting levy.
Daily hunting license for 14 consecutive days: 45.00 euros; reduced rate: 22.50 euros
Annual hunting license for 1 year: 70.00 euros; reduced: 35.00 euros
Annual hunting license for 3 years: 135.00 euros; reduced: 67.50 euros
An application for a hunting license is submitted to the competent authority. If the relevant requirements are met, the competent authority will issue the hunting license to the applicant.
Processing depends, among other things, on the cooperation of other authorities. The processing time may vary.
