If you are working or employed in the food sector for the first time, you will need a certificate from the public health department confirming that you have been instructed in infection control.

Do you produce food, handle it or place it on the market? Do you come into contact with these foods directly or indirectly (via consumer goods, such as plates or cutlery)? Do you want to work or be active in kitchens of restaurants, canteens and cafés or in facilities for communal catering?

Then you need a certificate from the health office that is no more than 3 months old. This proves the successful participation in an instruction about the measures for the protection against infection.

The aim of the instruction is to enable you to recognize your own symptoms of infectious diseases or symptoms of your employees at an early stage. You should also be able to prevent further spread as well as contamination of food and to assess when you should no longer carry out your activities in the event of certain symptoms.

The certificate is issued either by the health department or by a physician appointed by the health department.

Voraussetzungen

  • You are working commercially for the first time or are employed in the production, treatment or marketing of foodstuffs, during which you come into contact with them.
  • There are no indications that you have an infectious disease (e.g. salmonellosis, shigellosis).

Kosten

You will be charged a fee of 30.00 Euro will be charged.

If you belong to one of the following groups, you will receive the instruction free of charge:

  1. Pupils who are doing an internship to find a career in food businesses,
  2. Persons doing a voluntary social or ecological year or the Federal Voluntary Service,
  3. Persons who are to be employed
  1. as pre-school pupils,
  2. for vocational training,
  3. as vocational trainees or interns

or

  1. to provide voluntary assistance to hospitals

or

  1. children, young people, mothers and fathers if they are to take part in a recreational measure.

Verfahrensablauf

  • You can complete the instruction online.
  • Register for the online procedure using your service account or complete it without registering.
  • If applicable, have your proof of fee exemption ready.
  • After completing the online instruction, you will receive your proof as follows:
    • If you register using a service account, you must visit the public health department during the specified opening hours to pay the applicable fee and collect your proof.
    • If you have uploaded proof of exemption from fees, this will be checked by the public health department and you will be able to download your proof once it has been approved by the public health department.
    • If you have completed the online instruction without registering, you must visit the public health department during the specified opening hours to identify yourself with an ID document, pay the fee on site (not applicable if you present a proof of exemption from fees that has been checked by the public health department) and collect the proof.

The certificate of the infection protection instruction must not be older than 3 months at the start of the activity in which you come into contact with food.

Hinweise

A specific form of instruction is not prescribed by the IfSG.

After the instruction, it must be declared in text form that no facts are known for a prohibition of activity.

If there are indications that there are grounds for prohibiting work in the food sector, the certificate may not be issued until a medical certificate proves that the relevant ground for prohibition no longer exists.
