You can have previous vocational training credited to your training period as part of a dual vocational training program.

This will shorten your training period.

The following prior vocational training can be credited

• Attending a course at a vocational school (BBS) (e.g. vocational preparation year, higher vocational school),
• other vocational training

Credit will only be awarded if you submit an application to the relevant authority together with your training company.

• Proof of previous professional training, for example through
  • diploma
  • certificate

• previous vocational training

You can find out which other requirements you must fulfill from the responsible office.

Together with your training company, you submit an application for recognition of your previous vocational training.

The competent authority will decide

• whether your previous vocational training will be recognized,
• whether your training period will be shortened,
• which crediting period will be taken into account.

None.

You can also shorten your training period if you have a high school diploma or have already completed vocational training. You can also shorten the training period if you have already gained work experience in part-time jobs. If you have already acquired the skills and knowledge elsewhere, you can also apply to shorten the training period.

Each training occupation has a minimum training period that you must complete.

• Previous vocational training and higher-level school qualifications can be credited towards the training period.
• This can shorten the training period.
• The following periods can be credited:
  • Attendance at a vocational school,
  • Vocational preparation program,
  • School-leaving qualifications from secondary school
• Applications must be submitted jointly by the trainee and the training company.

To the competent body responsible for this dual training occupation. This is usually a chamber (IHK, Hwk etc.) or - in a few cases - the supervisory and service directorate.
