If you wish to take the university specialization examination, which is part of the first law examinations, you must be admitted to the examination.
The prerequisite for taking the university specialization examination is admission to the examination by the relevant examination office. You will be admitted to the examination if you meet the admission requirements and have submitted an application.

Proof of
- Six semesters of law studies, of which at least four semesters at a German university, of which at least two semesters at a university in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate,
- the practical period of study completed in accordance with Section 2 (3) of the State Law on Legal Training (JAG),
- successful participation in one exercise each for advanced students in civil law, criminal law and public law,
- successful participation in a seminar or an equivalent course in a basic subject,
- successful attendance of a foreign-language law course or a law-oriented language course,
- passing the intermediate examination and
- the special additional requirements of the University of Trier and Mainz.

Admission requires
- have studied Law for at least six semesters, of which at least four semesters at a German university, of which at least two semesters at a university in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate,
- has attended courses in the compulsory subjects (civil law, criminal law, public law, European law and the corresponding procedural law, German legal history, Roman law, constitutional history of modern times, history of private law of modern times, philosophy of law, sociology of law and legal methodology),
- has completed the practical study periods (Section 2 (3) of the State Law on Legal Education - JAG),
- has successfully participated in one exercise each for advanced students in civil law, criminal law and public law,
- has successfully participated in a seminar or an equivalent course in a basic subject,
- has successfully attended a foreign-language law course or a law-oriented language course, and
- has passed an intermediate examination and
- the other specific requirements of the University of Trier or the University of Mainz.
Once you have fulfilled the admission requirements for taking the specialization area examination during the course of your studies, you must register for the examination with the relevant examination office at your university by the deadline. If you have fulfilled all the requirements, you will be admitted to the examination and can take it.

In order to be able to take the university specialization examination, which together with the state compulsory subject examination forms the First Legal Examination, admission is required. Admission takes place at the university, provided the necessary requirements are met.
