You are a psychotherapist and would like to specialize further or get to know other psychotherapeutic areas? Then take a look at the possibilities of further education provided by the State Chamber of Psychotherapists.

After approbation, detailed and special knowledge, experience and skills for certain therapeutic activities can be acquired through further training.

Currently, the following continuing education can be recognized by the LPK RLP:

1. Neuropsychological psychotherapy
2. Psychodiabetology
3. Special pain psychotherapy
4. Psychoanalysis
5. Psychotherapy based on depth psychology
6. Behavioral therapy
7. Conversational psychotherapy (currently unfortunately no recognized training center in RLP available)
8. Systemic therapy
9. Expert work in the field of forensic psychology (specialization modules that can currently be recognized by the LPK RLP: family law and criminal law/penal enforcement law)

After completion of a departmental continuing education, an application for recognition of the additional title can be submitted to the chamber, which makes it possible to use the continuing education title.

• First of all: The form for entry in the continuing education register.
• On the website of the State Chamber of Psychotherapists you will find a separate application form for recognition of the respective additional title for each of the nine areas.

In order to be recognised for continuing education, you must meet the following requirements:

• Licence to practise as a psychological psychotherapist or child and adolescent psychotherapist

• At the time of application for recognition of the additional title: Membership of LPK RLP

• Application for entry in the continuing education register at the beginning of the continuing education

• Completion of theoretical and practical continuing education at further education institutions recognized by a state chamber of psychotherapists

• Compliance with all requirements of the continuing education regulations, the certificates to be submitted are listed exactly in the application form.

The fee for an application for the acquisition of an additional designation depends on the effort, but amounts to at least € 360.00.

Step 1: At the beginning of the departmental training, submit an application to the Chamber for entry in the continuing education register.

Step 2: After successful completion of the departmental training (for this purpose, it is essential to observe the current requirements of the continuing education regulations of the LPK RLP), the application for recognition of an additional title can be completed and sent together with all necessary documents to the postal address of the chamber.

If the application is approved, you will immediately receive the notification of recognition and the certificate, with which you may use the additional designation.

If, on the other hand, there are any queries or evidence is missing, LPK RLP will contact you.

If your application is rejected, you will receive the rejection notice. Please note that the application is subject to a fee even then. You then have one month to file an objection if necessary.

Usually: 1 to 4 weeks.

There are no deadlines for submitting applications.

In the case of negative decisions, the opposition period is one month.

The service described here is the possibility of further training. However, the new Psychotherapist Act, which was passed on 22 November 2019 and entered into force on 1 September 2020, will soon require far-reaching upheavals in the psychotherapeutic education and training landscape. In the psychotherapist chambers there will therefore also be the possibility of a further education in the future, which once again differs significantly from the service described here (area training). The LPK RLP informs on its homepage about important news and you will find information flyers on the new psychotherapy training.

After approbation, PPs and KJPs have the opportunity to complete at least 18 months of advanced training at a recognized further education institution in order to deepen their knowledge in a specific area and to acquire an announceable additional title.
