At the end of a recognised vocational training in the skilled trades, you as a trainee must prove your professional skills in the journeyman's examination.
To be admitted to the final examination, you must:
- have completed the training period prescribed in the training regulations,
- have passed prescribed intermediate examinations and provided evidence of formal qualifications.
- register for the exam or be registered by your instructor.
In addition, your vocational training relationship must be entered in the apprentice register. This does not apply if the entry is missing for a reason for which neither the apprentice (trainee) nor his legal representative is responsible.
Anyone who has been trained at a vocational training institution is also admitted if this course corresponds to vocational training in a recognised training occupation. In the case of appropriate achievements, trainees can also be admitted to the final examination after hearing before the end of their training period.
Persons who have not completed vocational training, but have had sufficient practical work in the profession or have otherwise proven their professional capacity to act, are admitted to the examination as external candidates.
If the journeyman's examination is carried out in two parts that fall apart in time, the admission will be decided separately.
The chairman of the examination board decides on admission to the journeyman's examination. If he does not consider the admission requirements to be met, the examination board decides.
Examination boards are set up by the Chamber of Crafts to take the final and retraining examinations.
As a result of the examinations, the candidate is issued with an examination certificate.
