If you would like a building, an object or an area to be entered in the register of cultural monuments, you can apply for this at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.

The cultural monuments protected under the Monument Protection Act are recorded in a list of monuments. The inclusion of a cultural monument in this list is declaratory, i.e. a cultural monument is already protected before it is listed there because it meets the criteria of the Monument Protection Act. The register is therefore kept "newsworthy" and primarily binds the administration.

In order for an object, a building or an area to be included in the register of cultural monuments, you must submit an application to the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments. Subsequently, the type of monument is examined; if the requirements are met, the affected municipalities, the lower monument protection authorities and the owners will be informed of the result.

The monument is then entered into the register of cultural monuments by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.

Depending on the type of monument, you will receive a notification.

Every citizen can submit the application.

• You fill out the application and submit it along with the optional documents.
• The application and the documents will be checked for completeness.
• The type of cultural monument is established.
• The requirements for inclusion in the register of cultural monuments are examined.
• The bodies and persons concerned shall be heard and informed, and the response result of the hearing shall be taken into account.
• When all the steps have been completed, the monument will be registered and you will receive a notice or notification.

The duration of the processing depends on the available information about the object to be recorded.

There is no deadline

The information should be as extensive as possible in order to enable the examination of the monument status. If it is necessary to determine further basics, the processing time is extended accordingly.

You can file an appeal with the Administrative Court against the decision on movable monuments and architectural monuments that were included in the register after 2011 after issuing a declaratory administrative act.
