Notifiable slaughterhouses must report their prices for slaughter quantities in the respective categories and commercial classes. The report is made on a weekly basis according to the prescribed model.
Market activity in the slaughter cattle sector is subject to strong fluctuations due to the constant change of supply and demand. In addition, there are a large number of suppliers and buyers, which makes it very difficult to have an overview of the market. In order to ensure market transparency, however, there is the instrument of official price quotation.
The monitoring is essentially based on the Livestock and Meat Act with the corresponding implementing regulations as well as the Commercial Class Act with the respective regulations for the individual animal species.
On the basis of the quotation sheets compiled, the quotation commission determines the price ranges of the respective categories and trading classes for the previous week from Monday to Sunday. These are then published together with the average weighted payout price calculated for the respective trading class as an official price determination.
The report is made on a weekly basis according to the prescribed model. The competent authority summarises the reports and calculates the average weighted payout price in the respective categories and trading classes. The findings will be published on Tuesday at noon as an official price determination.
The responsibility lies with the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety.
Accordingly, the prices paid for cattle and pigs by slaughterhouses subject to reporting under the 4th Cattle and Meat Act Implementation Ordinance (4th ViehFlGDV) are reported to the competent authority.
